The King James Version in today’s English
The Risen Word Bible is the King James Version (the Oxford text of 1769) with its grammar and outdated words brought into present-day English. It is not a new translation: it keeps the KJV’s wording, word order and rhythm wherever they are still clear, and its New Testament follows the same Greek text as the KJV (the Textus Receptus).
Old forms became today’s English — thee and thou became you, saith became says, unto became to.
Words that now mean something else were replaced. Some had come to mean the opposite:
Hell carries its original names — Sheol, Hades, Gehenna and Tartarus — as the Hebrew and Greek have them.
Small updates for clarity, such as modern spelling (shew → show) and capitals.
Kept as in the KJV: its word-for-word character, familiar phrases such as the Lord of hosts, and the words of faith (grace, righteousness, sanctify). Every change is recorded with its reason.
The 1769 King James Version, with Strong’s numbers for the Hebrew and Greek. Where a word needed changing, the choice was checked against public-domain versions.
The Risen Word Bible is dedicated to the public domain (CC0 1.0). You may copy, print, quote, translate and share it freely, without asking and without credit.
